Cultural Games

On Thursday we did our own cultural games. We were playing games from Russia, Scotland Australia. There were 30 students in groups showing us how to play lots of cultural games I was one of the students showing people how to play a cultural game. I had four people in my team Saul, Nigel, Mahdi and Naweed. We were teaching people how to play Ula mika . Ula mika is were you have two poles one meter apart of each other and a lei four meters away from the two poles you stand behind the lei and you under arm the coconut in between the two poles if you don't throw the coconut in between the poles you loses if you do get it between the poles that means if your coconut goes the furthest you win.

There were three teams red, green and yellow, if they get it through the two poles they go to the championship. If your coconut went the furtherest,  second furtherest and third furtherest you go behind the red lei and the rest go to the green lei.  if it doesn't go through the poles you have to be behind the yellow lei. Only the red lei people get a house point if they get through the two poles and who ever gets there coconut the furthers gets two houses points because they came first second and third.

I enjoyed teaching people how to play a game from other cultural's. Have you ever have a school cultural games??

Landscape Art

"That looks really cool!"

In Te Waka Ako we were creating landscape art. Landscape art is where you draw a cool view of

mountains and the sky then color it. The top of your landscape has to be warm colors and the bottom

has to be cool colors. We had to get our art book and get a pencil and get A4 paper. I started to draw hill's

and snow covered mountains. I also drew a river. Then on the top I added the sun and squiggly lines next

to the sun. When I was done with my drawing I started to add color. We had to use crayons to color in the

landscape. For my mountains I use different shades of greens and for my snow mountain I use white for

the top and grey for the bottom. Then for the sun I used red, orange and yellow then I blended them all

together. The landscape looked beautiful and it was really hard to color in the different spaces. I thought

it wasn't gonna look good but when I added color it looked very cool.

Tsunami

Last Friday my family got an alert on their phone about a tsunami warning and that people needed to  get

up high. So I went on the news and people were talking about the tsunami warning. We were lucky

because the tsunami was not coming our way in Auckland. But it was coming at the east coast so they

had to evacuate  and they had to go somewhere high. But thankfully there was not a tsunami.

At school we were talking about things we should pack if there was another tsunami or emergency. The

things we needed were sunscreen,a hat, medicine, flash light, radio, bug spray, non perishable food, water

and other stuff.

Are you ready for a emergency?
